Short Haitus

I have several big projects that need to be put to rest and since I have run out of drafts that can be published easily, this blog will be on hiatus until Thursday or Friday. Please check out the archives in the meantime.

If The Tempo Seems to Have Been Slower

There were several good reasons. Between work and health issues I have been feeling like a ping-pong ball, but more on that later. I have neglected my blogging and hope to make up for lost time. Things should pick up this week.

Updates on The Blog

Long term readers might notice some changes made over the past few days. Those who are new, please take a look around. My goal here was to share as much legal information as possible.

First, the look got changed more by accident than by design. Blogger added the capability to add blog feeds instead of just links. Adding this feature drove the current changes to the blog.

You will find blog feeds on the right side of the screen. They are also divided into subject: My General Business Law Blog List, My Employment Law Blog List, My Consumer Law and Consumer Bankruptcy Blog List, and My Blog List For Law Practice Blogs. It might be a bit confusing to read - blog titles are lighter than the headline for the blog post - but you can see the latest post title on the other blog and with a mouse click be there reading the post.

You will find under Other Blogs and Web Pages of Interest those blogs that did not fit into these categories or whose feeds Blogger rejected, and you will also find links to ordinary web pages.

I know of one or two blogs that I need to add and so check back.

I also took the time to organize the Indiana resources into one section: Indiana Legal Resources: Web Pages and Blogs. Not the catchiest of titles but I figure it makes it up in being obvious. This section more than the others needs to be expanded and will be over the next few weeks.

If this does help in finding relevant legal information or if it is just a mess, please let me know.

A postscript of sorts, some other changes coming to this blog: There will be a huge overhaul of the the subject index. I cannot find another way to do it but to cut out the entire index and work it back in. I think that will be my Fourth of July holiday. There will also be a move of some of my topics to another blog altogether leaving this blog's core interest of being business start ups and starting, finally, the Indiana Business Competition Blog.

Silence is not always golden

I am back from about 40 hours of misery. The doctor told me that it was some kind of allergic reaction. I told him I never used to have allergies. He say, these things happen when you get older. That got me thinking of atrophy and entropy - two subject that always get me depressed. I think the doctor has no idea why the room was spinning when it ought not have been but that has stopped. Everything has pretty much stopped except an aversion to food other than cottage cheese. No, we are not having fun in Anderson, but I hope that you are.

The Indiana Funeral Home and Cemetary Law Wiki

While not yet ready for public display, I decided about six weeks ago to work on a special project involving Indiana's law on funeral homes, cemeteries, and related subjects.

Why a wiki? Because unlike this blog, a wiki is meant for collaboration. Binary Law's Blogs vs wikis for an explanation of the uses of a wiki versus a blog. For more of an explanation what is a wiki there is Video: Wikis in Plain English or this Wikipedia entry.

Being meant for collaboration requires collaborators. I invite any Indiana lawyers representing funeral directors or funeral homes or cemeteries to send me an e-mail - if they want more information. For those wanting to a very rough draft of a work in progress, click here.

Any further writing by me about the law of funeral homes, cemeteries, and related subjects will take place there and not here. This is also the start of my reshaping this blog to fit a bit better my current practice and provide a bit more of a focus to the blog itself.

The Flu Struck Home

For anyone following this blog, you have my apologies. After the wife had had the flu for a week and I felt fine, I assumed she had something else. Wrong. It was nice enough to wait till I had had my birthday on the 27th. I have experienced the full range of symptoms since Thursday and I can say none were very fun. I made an attempt to read my e-mail yesterday but that was mind numbingly slow going. This morning, I feel drained but that is about all. Miserableness. That word describes the past four days. At one point, I thought about how all those people died in 1919 and I thought what a miserable way to die. Things will be slow here over the next week. Work has piled up, telephone calls need returned, and writing here must take less precedence. Please, bear with me for the next week.

The Sam Hasler, Attorney Web Page Updated

Please check out my firm's updated web page. In addition to this blog, I also have a more traditional web page with more background information and a description of my practice. I have begun to update the Articles page with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) and more formal articles than you might find here.

My civil litigation practice focuses on business related litigation such as non-compete agreements, contracts, third party interference with contracts and business interests, trade secrets, and franchises. I generally limit my litigation practice Madison (Anderson, Elwood, Pendleton, Chesterfield), Delaware (Muncie, Yorktown, Eaton, Albany), Blackford (Hartford City), Grant (Marion, Swayzee, Gas City, Upland), Howard (Kokomo, Greentown, Russiaville), Henry (New Castle, Middletown, Mount Summit), Randolph (Winchester), Wayne (Richmond, Centerville), Hancock (Greenfield), Marion (Indianapolis), Hamilton (Noblesville, Atlanta, Carmel, Fishers), and Boone (Lebanon). Other counties require a case by case decision on my part.

My non-litigation practice includes business start ups, business succession planning (estate planning for businesses), contracts, assignments for benefit of creditors and franchises. I do not limit my non-litigation practice by county.

A Bit of News and Merry Christmas

There should be no new articles posted till December 26. Yes, I will be taking a break.

For my subscribers - have a Merry Christmas! Or whatever holiday you are celebrating at this time of the year. Be good to your children, your significant others, and friends.

For those wandering in here for the first, a words of advice. If you do not see what looks to be on point, take a look at the subjects on the right hand of your screen. Your Google search may been too narrow. Anyway, feel free to browse and look around at your leisure.
